Gaming equipment > Exchange and Redemption of Gaming Chips, Plaques and Coupons
Short Summary
This document governs the exchange and redemption of gaming chips, plaques, and coupons in gaming establishments. It applies to gaming licensees, patrons, and employees of gaming establishments. Wagering on authorized games, other than slot machines, must be conducted with gaming chips or plaques. Coupons are permitted for use in wagering at authorized games. Value chips not in active use by a gaming licensee cannot be used for wagering and can only be redeemed at the cashiers’ cage. Gaming chips and plaques are issued to patrons upon request and should not be given as change in non-gaming transactions. Non-value chips can be redeemed at the gaming table from which they were issued. Each gaming chip and plaque represents a debt owed by the gaming licensee and remains their property. Gaming licensees must promptly redeem their own genuine gaming chips and plaques presented by patrons, except when obtained or used unlawfully. Gaming licensees may accept and redeem gaming chips or plaques issued by other legally operated gaming licensees under certain circumstances. Employees authorized to receive gaming chips as gratuities may redeem them at the cashier’s cage or another approved location. Gaming licensees must also submit a system for exchanging value chips and gaming plaques with other legally operated gaming licensees. A sign must be posted at the cashiers’ cage and satellite cage stating that gaming chips or plaques issued by another gaming licensee cannot be exchanged or redeemed in the establishment.
