Can I offer contests that involve international sports in Maine? What are the requirements?
To offer contests that involve international sports in Maine, you will need to obtain a license from the Director of the State of Maine [3.3].
Licensing Requirements
To obtain a license, you will need to submit an application that includes information such as the name and contact information of the applicant, disclosure of ownership interests, and the type and estimated number of fantasy contests to be conducted during the term of the license. Additionally, you will need to provide evidence that you have established and will implement procedures for fantasy contests that meet certain conditions of operation, such as preventing the sharing of confidential information and verifying that fantasy contestants are 18 years of age or older [3.3].
Facility Sports Wagering License
It is important to note that a facility sports wagering license is required to conduct sports wagering in which wagers are placed within a physical location controlled by the licensee in the State [2.1].
Allocation of Funds
If you are a fantasy contest operator licensed under this chapter that has gross fantasy contest revenues of $100,000 or greater, the director shall collect for deposit to the General Fund 10% of gross fantasy contest revenues, including any revenues earned while operating pending approval of an application submitted to the director as described in section 1103, subsection 9 [3.2].
Please refer to Section 1103 and Section 1104 of 8 MERS for more information on the licensing requirements and conditions of licensure [3.3].
